Do you feel like you’re struggling for space and have that one guest room that is only ever used with a guest staying once in a blue moon? We have come up with a few tips to help you turn your space into a versatile area that can be used year-round.

1. Use A Wall Or Sofa Bed
This will instantly create more space as it will either be folded up into the couch or hidden behind a cupboard. Typically, sofa beds or walls bed were considered to be quite daggy and rather uncomfortable however there is good new as they are not how they once used to be.

Many furniture stores will provide comfortable and stylish options that do vary in size and price. A favourite of ours is this sofa bed from Ikea as it has the look of a stylish corner lounge however it easily assembles into a bed for a guest and also comes with extra storage.

2. Open up our living space
One way to best do this is to have your guest bedroom set up as an extension from the living room. Director of MAKE Architecture, Melissa Bright has said the easiest way to do this is to use a bi-fold door or sliding panel that will recess into a wall – it gives the option of being able to close off the room when required or keep as a large living space.

3. Install a built-in desk
This is a simple way to create your home office or study area for the kids without sacrificing an area in your home. You will also be able to build cupboards that will store all the essentials but also be out of sight for visitors - we think this is a genius way to have a versatile stylish space.

4. Separate your guest room from the main residence.
If you have the ability to do this, then it is something to consider. Completely removing the guest room from the main house and creating a studio is a wonderful idea to have a separate multi-purpose space. You will be able to have a guest bedroom that provides a bit of privacy for visitors but can also create a home office away from distractions or even a home gym or craft studio. Another option is to be able to rent out the room for short stay accommodation.
